So this is exciting news. Since the next version/generation of my PHP framework is completed and available for download for all to use, the very next step I've had planned is to start working on the next version of Phire CMS. Truthfully, I'm very excited. While I've used Phire CMS as my de facto CMS for the past year and a half, and it has worked very well for me (and my clients), I have made copious notes on what I could do to make it better. Some of those things where built into the v1 branch, but most where reserved for the new v2 branch.

So what does this mean?

Well, it's a bit of good news/bad news. The bad news is, because I'll be upgrading the framework from the old Moc10 PHP Library to the Pop PHP Framework, that means v2 will only support PHP 5.3 or greater. The good news is that v2 will only support PHP 5.3 or greater. :) Time to move on and upgrade folks! Of course, the more immediate bad news is that backwards compatibility to the v1 branch will most likely be very limited. However, fear not, the plan is to write a migration tool that will assist anyone in successfully upgrading and transferring from v1 to v2.

Stay tuned for more information on the development of the next version of Phire CMS, version 2!
