Good Ol' Led Zeppelin

Music, sweet music. Those that know me, know I'm very passionate about music. Currently, and ironically, I sit here in a Led Zeppelin shirt (yes, the same one in my picture - pathetic, I know) and a live version of Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love from their BBC Sessions Album is playing (yes, I like other bands besides Led Zeppelin.) This version has them crank through their blues-infused riff of Whole Lotta Love and then boogie on through a few choice blues tracks to pay homage to those that influenced them - Boogie Chillun', Fixin' to Die, That's Alright Mama and A Mess of Blues - the last two made popular by some guy named Elvis. Personally, I love the BBC Sessions Album because it shows the raw tour de force that pretty much summed up Led Zeppelin.

Just take a listen to the live version of The Immigrant Song. During the introduction, it's almost comical how they practically cut off the emcee and the audience's applause and bust into the song so hard and fast, you can only imagine the prim and proper British audience gasping in horror as the band unleashes that particular song upon them as the opener.

After searching for and listening to some of the new offerings of today's mainstream music, it's always good to circle back and dive into the classics like Led Zeppelin. I always discover something new that I hadn't before. It always refreshes and inspires me, especially when focusing on original material.

I guess the point is, much like Led Zeppelin did in their Whole Lotta Love medley, let's not forget from whence we came.
